Author Guidelines

A manuscript should be submitted in two copies.

It should be typewritten using a standard font (size 14), 1.5 spacing on one side of a white A4 size sheet of paper (210 × 295 mm) with 2.5 cm margins on both sides of the text.

The pages should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper.

The manuscript should be accompanied by a formal letter of referral from the institution where the study was conducted. The first page of the article should feature clearance from your academic supervisor as well as their signature certified by the round seal of the institution. The last page should be signed by all authors allowing the publication of the manuscript in the Journal and on the website of the publishing house.

The front page should feature the name of the article that must be informative and fairly short. It should also include the authors’ initials and surnames, the full name of the institution and the department (subdepartment, laboratory) where the study was carried out; the full name, postal address and email, telephone and fax number of the author responsible for communication with the editorial team.

The summary should be extensive, at least 500 – 1000 characters. It should also include keywords (5 – 10) enabling article indexing in search engines.

Generally, an original article should not be longer than 9 typewritten pages; short communication papers and case reports should be about 3 – 4 pages. The length of lectures and reviews should not exceed 12 pages.

The structure of original articles

Introduction. It should give a rationale and aims of the study as well as a review of the existing knowledge on the subject with references to the most significant publications.

Materials and methods. This section should contain qualitative and quantitative characteristics of (examined) patients as well as information about all research methods used during the study, including statistical data processing methods. When mentioning devices and new drugs, please give the name and the country of the manufacturer in brackets.

Results should be presented in the text, tables and figures in a logical order. Information given in tables and figures should not be entirely repeated in the text. Only the most relevant data should be mentioned. Information provided in tables should not be duplicated in figures. Properly numbered figure captions and the description of figure details should be provided on a separate page. Units of measurement should comply with the International System of Units (SI system).

Discussion. New important aspects of the results of your investigation should be emphasized and if possible, compared with the data obtained by other researchers. The information already given in the “Introduction” as well as detailed data from the “Results” should not be reiterated. “Discussion” can include justified recommendations and a brief conclusion.

Tables. Each table should have a name and an assigned ordinal number depending on when it was mentioned in the text for the first time. Each column in a table should have a short heading (abbreviations can be used). All explanations including deciphered abbreviations should be given in footnotes. Statistical methods used for the presentation of data variability and significance of differences should also be specified.

Illustration captions. Figures are numbered using Arabic numerals in order of appearance. A caption for each figure includes its name and "legend" (the explanation of figure parts, symbols, arrows and other details). Microphotograph captions should also contain magnification ratios.

Illustrations. Tiff or jpeg file formats, 300 dpi.

Bibliography (list of references). All scientific papers in the list are enumerated in order of citation (in the order they are mentioned in the text) and not in alphabetical order based on lead authors’ surnames. When authors’ surnames are mentioned in the text individually, they should be given with initials first (the surnames of foreign authors are given in the original spelling). In the text, bibliographic references are identified by Arabic numerals enclosed in square brackets.

If a team of authors consists of up to 6 people, all authors are listed (with their initials placed after their surnames). If a team of authors is larger than that, only the first six authors are mentioned, followed by “и соавт.” (“et al.” in foreign literature). In some cases, editors or compilers can act as book authors. The surname of the last one of them should be followed by “ред.” enclosed in brackets (“ed.” in foreign references).

A bibliographic description of a book (given after the title) should include the name of the city where it was published, the name of the publishing house (after a colon) and the year of publication (after a semicolon).

A bibliographic description of an article from a journal (given after the article's title) should include the abbreviated name of the journal and the year of publication (no punctuation marks are needed in between). After a semicolon they are followed by the number of the domestic journal (for foreign journals – a volume number and a journal number, the latter is in brackets). The numbers of the first and the last pages (a dash between them is needed) are indicated after a colon.

When writing a literature review, the number of sources should be min. 15 and max. 60.
